Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday… Where did you go?
Posted on September 16th, 2010
Wow, the week has flown by so quickly! There’s been a lot going on here at lilikoi, along with a few very exciting events that are right around the corner.
We will be driving up to Santa Barbara tomorrow morning for Amy’s wedding. The festivities start tomorrow afternoon with the rehearsal, a dinner to follow and then a slumber party—girls only! Since the bachelorette party was just about a month ago, I’m looking forward to spending some time with the girls again. We had such a great weekend celebrating our beautiful Amy at The Cliffs. It should be a fun reunion!
I am incredibly honored to be in the wedding and really excited for Saturday. Amy and Matt will be expressing their love and saying their nuptials at the Old Mission Santa Ynés and will celebrate with dinner and dancing at Petros in Los Olivos. I’ve already checked the weather and it’s supposed to be sunny and warm. It’s going to be perfect!
Cheers to Amy and Matt! I love you both!
an instant occasion

Last night was just a relaxing night at home… it got late so we picked up dinner from one of our local favorites, Lemonade. We talked about inspiring business leaders, music, our plans for the weekend, our upcoming travels and the amazing bottle of wine we were sipping. We opened a 2001 Clos Du Val Reserve, Estate Bottled Zinfandel—the sort of bottle you’d open on a special occasion, except that last night wasn’t a special occasion. It was a beautiful, relaxing and fun night so why not make the night a special occasion?
I remember the day we made the decision to purchase this very bottle. It was the first time I had walked in a tasting room and was greeted with a “good morning”. We were up in Napa visiting our friend Dave for his birthday and made some time to visit a few vineyards and happen to start early that day. Why not? A little buzz before breakfast isn’t going to hurt you, as long as you’re not immediately out of the house and have hints of toothpaste lingering in your mouth. That would really throw those notes of dark fruit, black pepper and tabacco off the charts and not in a good way. Anyway, I remember the day we brought it home, which was back in 2003. There’s a lot of fun in buying a nice bottle and letting the time you open it be a mystery. There’s also a lot of fun in lying it down for several years to let it age to its ultra-primo state. Yummy!
We shared the news that we had opened this bottle of vino tinto with our friend Charles, who replied—and couldn’t have put it any better:
I love how you’re not afraid to draw an old bottle out of the cellar on a random weekday night. That’s when they almost always taste the best- No hype no big holiday or occasion or fancy meal, just chillin at home with a badass bottle. I don’t know but maybe it’s a combination of the rush of rebelling against your better wisdom or plans, with being completely spontaneous and thus having no pent up expectations, with finally, the great sensation and contrast of taking a mundane life moment and transforming it into an instant occasion. The wine transforms the moment and reminds us that any random moment with a loved one is a perfect one to celebrate life. (I don’t endorse drinking fine bottles alone, that’s strange.)
Even better is when you’re unsure about a bottle (again low expectations) and it turns out to be awesome. (especially an old unassuming bottle where you personally have taken the pain and risk to age it.) The added high there is that you know you’ve won the game, beaten the odds.
Sounds like you got both of the above last night, congratulations.

Summer finally feels like it’s here and I’m so happy! I love the warm weather and have been really loving the following (not in any particular order):
• Friends stopping by and staying with us (Evin, Ian, M&M, Katrina, Amy & Matt)
• Bocce Ball league on Tuesday nights on the beach
• Hikes up in Malibu, followed by a couple hours lounging on the lawn at Malibu Wines
• Outdoor dinner parties
• Watching my husband surf (yes, this is my half Japanese, German/Irish husband pictured above)
• Planning our trip to Hana, Maui for Dave and Christine’s Wedding
• Counting down the days to Hana, Maui
• Creating new products for our online store
• Going to the beach, outdoor concerts and projecting movies in our back yard… the list is endless. I love Summer. Oh, and peaches. The most amazing peaches are at my local farmers market, which makes me think of Megan. Love you!

We are back from our fabulous trip to Oahu where we relaxed on the beach, surfed, drank a mai tai or two, ate plenty of sushi, swam out to Chinaman’s Hat, spent time with friends, enjoyed a facial and massage, and most importantly—celebrated Coby and Dana. It was a much needed vacation and I feel relaxed and revived. I’m excited to move forward with existing projects, anxious to start new projects and looking forward to scheduled meetings with potential clients and partners.
